Time for Neighborhood Beautification!

Hello Neighbors!

We have two exciting upcoming events that promise to make the neighborhood even more lovely….

First and foremost, we hope you will join us for the:

GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP: Saturday, April 29th, 9am to 12pm (whether you have an hour or 3, your help makes a difference!)Volunteers meet at Rinconada Point Park (Bob McCannon Pkwy & Painted Rock) for bags & supplies. This is a great time for everyone to pitch in and clean up your own street as well as surrounding open spaces. Imagine if each person gave one hour, how beautiful our neighborhood would be?

Next, our LWNA board Vice-President, Karen Buccola, recently attended the Ladera Medians planning meeting.  She is happy to report that the meeting turned out to be a collaborative effort to design the medians and choose the plants, with everyone pleased with the results.  The actual work will start in August and take 3 months to complete. We’re all looking forward to seeing these improvements!

Neighborhood Clean Up Saturday April 30th

Dear Neighbors,

Just a friendly reminder about the Great American Cleanup which will take place this year on Saturday, April 30th.

Here’s the agenda:

anytime between 9:00 – 11:00: pick up your supplies (plastic bags, gloves, snacks and beverages) at Riconada Park; you’ll let the LWNA board members know what areas of the neighborhood you’ll be cleaning so that we can send a truck by to collect the city-issued bags after the clean-up.

anytime between 9:00 – 12:00: clean up the area of the neighborhood you selected and leave the bags at the end of the streets.

12:00 and forward: enjoy the fruits of your labor by admiring how nice the neighborhood looks!

While it’s not mandatory to sign-up ahead of time, it will help us get a head-count for supplies (and snacks!). Planning on participating? Sign up here:

Save the Date – Great American Cleanup April 30th

Hello Neighbors! Happy (almost) Spring!

The Great American Cleanup is a nationwide program in which over 20,000 communities participate. You can find out more about the Albuquerque program here. This year, as it has for over 2 decades, Ladera West Neighborhood Association will be participating in the clean-up, which will take place this year on Saturday, April 30th.

While we’ll send a reminder closer to the date, here is the tentative agenda:

anytime between 9:00 – 11:00: pick up your supplies (plastic bags, gloves, snacks and beverages) at Riconada Park; you’ll let the LWNA board members know what areas of the neighborhood you’ll be cleaning so that we can send a truck by to collect the city-issued bags after the clean-up.

Cleanup Day Recap and Yard Sale Update

Hello Neighbors!

Last Saturday, April 25th, LWNA participated in the Great American Cleanup.  While we were hoping for more than the 13 volunteers that came, we were grateful for them and managed to pick up 30 bags of trash in a few short hours!  If you weren’t able to make it, we’re looking forward to next year’s event and will hopefully see you there!

After the cleanup we enjoyed a picnic lunch provided by LWNA, which gave us a chance to chat and get to better know our neighbors (and neighborhood issues).   Check out the pictures from the event, below.

We also wanted to give you an update on the “yard sale days.”  We originally had posted that we would advertise for neighborhood-wide sales on June 6th, but we have expanded that to June 5th and/or 6th so those of you that want to start on Friday will also be covered by the advertising.  Scroll down to the very next post to see the updated details.

Looking forward!

Neighborhood Cleanup and Volunteer Lunch

Hello Neighbors! Happy Spring!

It’s almost time for our Neighborhood Cleanup and Volunteer Lunch!!!   As Ladera West has every year, this year we are again participating in The Great American Cleanup.   It will be on Saturday, April 25th.  And, as an added bonus, this year we’ll be ending the cleanup with a picnic lunch!

While we’ll send one more reminder closer to the date, here is the agenda:

9:00 – 12:00:  pick up your supplies (plastic bags, gloves and beverages) at Riconada Park; you’ll let the LWNA board members know what areas of the neighborhood you’ll be cleaning so that we can send a truck by to collect your bags after the clean-up.

9:00 – 12:00 – clean up the area of the neighborhood you selected and leave the bags at the end of the streets.

12:00 – come back to the park for a picnic lunch provided by LWNA and take some time to socialize with your neighbors, meet the board members and get some handy handouts on the Association, crime prevention and other good neighborhood resources.

While it’s not mandatory to sign-up ahead of time, it will help us get a head-count for supplies (and lunch!). Planning on participating? Sign up here:
